Get to know Our Team

Our Team consists of five experienced Canberra GP's with a wealth of knowledge in primary care, occupational health and Travel Medicine. Our two practice principals Dr Alan Shroot and Dr Les Buczynski have been at the clinic more than twenty years. Drs Hannaford and Grundelova for more than five years and Dr Hyams-Elijah joined us in 2016 having practiced in Canberra for nearly ten years. Our Nursing team of Rebecca, Margaret and Susan have a combined 25 years experience in General practice and support the GP's with their expert knowledge. Rebecca has led the nursing team at the practice since 2001.Our friendly office team of Alayne, Ana and Helen are ably led by Caroline with Graeme and Bernadette providing management and book keeping services respectively. Our Bio's below give more information on the team’s interests and experience.

Dr Alan Shroot

(MB CHb (Glas) D Obst RCOG, MRCGP, FRACGP)

Dr Alan Shroot studied at Glasgow University and came to Australia in1977. Alan has been a GP in Dickson since 1981, and was one of the owners instrumental in building the medical centre and remains one of the Practice Principals to this day. Alan has special interest in Travel Medicine and hypnosis and previously was a procedural GP doing Obstetrics and Acupuncture. Outside of the practice Dr Shroot is an integral part of the Canberra Jewish community and is President and Founder of ASH (Action on Smoking and Health) and works feverishly on his golf handicap.

Dr Leslaw Buczynski

(MD (Cracow), AMC, FRACGP)

Dr Les Buczynski studied at Jaqiellonian University in Krakow. Les came to Australia in 1984 and worked at Woden Hospital from 1991, he completed his FRACGP Fellowship in 1995. Dr Buczynski started in Dickson as a GP in 1995 and remains one of the Principal Doctors of the Practice. Les has special interest in Travel medicine and is an accredited ISTM (International Society of Travel Medicine) doctor, and also interested in sports medicine, occupational medicine and general practitioner. Les is also fluent in Polish and his outside interests are reading and travel.

Dr Dianne Hannaford

(MBBS, Dip RACOG)

Dr Dianne Hannaford studied at University of NSW. Dianne has a Graduate Certificate in Forensic Medicine and Dip RACOG and has been a GP in Canberra for many years. Dr Hannaford has a special interest in Women’s Health, Antenatal Care, Family Planning, General Practice and is qualified in Mirena and Implanon procedures.

Dr Esther Hyams-Elijah

(MD, FRACGP)

Dr Esther Hyams-Elijah graduated in Israel as a MD in 1979. She has a fellowship RACGP from Australia since 1996 and worked 8 years in Emergency and thereafter as a General Practitioner. Esther has special interest in Mental Health, Paediatrics and Women’s Health, minor surgery, Workers Compensation and General Medicine. Dr Hyams-Elijah speaks English as well as Indian languages - Hindustani, Marathi, Gujrah and Hebrew. Travel is her passion as well as movies, reading and bushwalking.

Dr Zdenka Grundelova

(MD, FRACGP)

Dr Zdenka Grundelova studied in the Czech Republic graduating in 1981. After graduation for 6 years worked as an anaesthesiologist registrar. Since 1998 has worked as a general practitioner and arrived in Australia in 1990. Since 1993 has worked at Calvary A & E, Intensive Care for 5 years and joined Dickson Medical and Travel. Zdenka has special interest in acute medicine, fractures, sutures and travel medicine .Dr Grundelova is also fluent in Czech. She enjoys bushwalking, painting and travelling.
